Hi all.
Jeffrey here.
“Bakery Order Mix-ups” is this week’s puzzle title refers to anagramming the second word of phrases into something found in a bakery.
18a [Fruit-filled objects in a bakery food fight?] – FLYING TARTS (flying start).
29a [Biscuit bought at a drive-thru bakery?] – TRAFFIC SCONE (traffic cones).
50a [Bakery loaf sold during the NHL finals?] – PLAYOFF BREAD (playoff beard). Hockey players usually don’t shave during the playoffs. I don’t get it.
64a [Chewy rolls that have far surpassed their shelf life?] – GREEN BAGELS (Green Gables). Yuk. The best bagels are from Montreal and are either sesame or poppy seed.
Canadian content:
1d [Rowe of CBC Radio’s “The Doc Project”] – ACEY. I believe I have mentioned before that listening to CBC Radio will help solve Barb’s puzzles. I still haven’t done that.
8d [Parti Québécois founder Lévesque] – RENE.
12d [ ____ -Canada (fill-up option)] – PETRO.
30d [Alta.’s Macleod and McMurray] – FTS, as in Forts. Locations in Alberta.
47d [Dudley ____, cartoon Mountie] – DO-RIGHT. Always saving Nell from evil Snidely Whiplash.
Tip of the Week:
“Mix” in a title or clue can hint at an anagram.
See you next week!
We all need to listen to the CBC!
